About Bioelements

Does Bioelements test on animals?
We are all animal lovers at Bioelements. Animal testing is not, nor has it ever been, part of Bioelements' product development, ingredient formulation or production.
What is the shelf life of Bioelements products?
While specific products can vary, in general, unopened products have a shelf life of 1-3 years when stored properly. After opened, we simply recommend that products are used as directed promptly, within one year.
I'm pregnant - can I still use your products/get facials?

Bioelements products are safe for pregnant women. However, as every pregnancy is different, it's always best to consult with your physician. Sometimes your skin can become more sensitive, more dehydrated and even experience breakouts during pregnancy, so we recommend that you treat your skin gently.

What products do you recommend for people that are sensitive to perfume or scent in their product?

If you are allergic or sensitive to synthetic or artificial fragrance, the good news is that Bioelements products don't contain any! The aromas in Bioelements products come from natural plant extracts or essential oils. Many of our products are known for their clean, fresh aroma, and the fact that every ingredient used in our products are chosen for a specific skin care benefit.

Who is my distributor?
How does Bioelements make its product test claims?

Here are all the ways we test our products:

Dermatologist, ophthalmologist, and clinical tests for safety + efficacy

We follow strict formula quality control via stability and clinical testing to ensure effectiveness and optimum performance. Tests include RIPT, microbial challenge, pH testing, viscosity, plus visual, odor and tactile integrity. We also conduct dermatologist and ophthalmologist testing on all formulas.

In addition, we rely on independent clinical in-vitro (within a controlled environment/lab), and in-vivo (human) ingredient testing.  Example: the peptides blend in Age Activist Clinical Youth Serum is clinically shown to visibly and significantly reduce wrinkle appearance after 5 minutes – in-vivo testing.

Consumer perception studies

Bioelements runs consumer perception testing on specific formulas, in order to validate and quantify a benefit (example: "98% say age spots appear less visible after 2 weeks"). These strict perception studies are run by 3rd party outside experts in beauty product testing, wherein chosen participants are give the product(s) and follow a strict at-home agenda. Participants will then complete surveys to detail what they see/experience.

Real-world efficacy testing by top estheticians

Our own team of working Bioelements estheticians across the country test formulas on themselves in their own professional environments during the R+D stage of a product, and offer invaluable feedback on performance.

Is Bioelements a "clean beauty" company?

The term "clean beauty" (beauty products that are wholly good for you) is growing more popular these days. But to Bioelements, the concept of clean beauty is nothing new – we've been skin-conscious, mindful and responsible formulators since day one. Our professional-use-only and at-home products blend the best of science and nature with natural botanicals, aromatherapist and pure essential oils – if an ingredient is not directly beneficial to the skin or efficacy of a formula, it is not included. Our Product Integrity statement clearly defines this.

Is Bioelements cruelty free?

At Bioelements, our choice to not test on animals is so important, we've made it a part of our 'Professional Formula Integrity' statement - which is printed on all our retail product packaging. This statement defines our brand, and includes the additional facts that we use no artificial colorants or synthetic fragrance, and use natural botanicals. Because of our 'Professional Formula Integrity' statement, we have opted to not pay for inclusion on any of the myriad 3rd party cruelty-free labels in the marketplace at this time.

Ingredients

Can you tell me what ingredients are in your products?

Our clinical skin care formulas do not contain artificial colorants, synthetic fragrance or parabens – which can irritate and damage skin – and we never test on animals.

The full ingredient disclosure is listed under the "Ingredients" tab on the corresponding product page.
What does "our skin care products do not contain synthetic fragrances or colorants" mean?
Artificial colorants and synthetic fragrance can irritate the skin. This type of irritation is referred to as "irritant contact dermatitis," a simple irritation that develops in response to a substance applied to the skin. Irritant contact dermatitis can cause redness, itching, rash or worse. Bioelements never uses synthetic fragrances. Every aroma you smell comes from 100% natural essential oils or plant extracts that are used in the products for their therapeutic value. Their amazing aromas are a bonus. And, we never use artificial colorants. That's why our products tend to be white or a very soft color. Artificial colorants serve no purpose in skin care products and actually cause harm. When you use a Bioelements product, you're never putting dye or perfume on your face!
I'm allergic to shellfish and iodine. Can I use products that contain the ingredient 'algae'?
There are many types of algae, but in general, ingredients from the ocean such as 'algae' and 'seaweed' naturally contain iodine just as shellfish does. However, the severity of the allergy depends on the person. Many people cannot ingest shellfish because of an iodine allergy, but would have no problem putting a product on their skin. Other clients have a more serious condition and cannot do either. When dealing with any client that has an allergy, it's not up to us to determine what is 'safe'. With any allergy, it's up to their doctor or allergist to make the determination of how severe the allergy is, and what they need to avoid. This needs to be determined before you perform any treatments or professionally recommend any take home products to this client.
